Abstraction in Belgium. The collection in dialogue with Victor Servranckx

A whole series of artists in Belgium contributed to the evolution of abstract art. Victor Servranckx (1897-1965) is generally known as one of the first abstract painters and sculptors in Belgium and the exhibition Servranckx. The Twenties provides a good reason to show works from the collection by artists who have wandered along the pathways of abstract art. This presentation covers a period of more than 70 years and offers an interesting overview of what abstraction has meant to different artists – from a 1914 composition by Jules Schmalzigaug via Felix De Boeck and Joseph Lacasse to Dan Van Severen and Marc Verstockt.
