Mu.ZEE houses a unique collection of Belgian art dating from c.1850 to the present day. The particular nature of the collection, the changing collection displays, an active exhibition policy and an extensive public programme all make Romestraat 11 a place of amazement and involvement.
Mu.ZEE shows work by James Ensor, Léon Spilliaert, Georges Vantongerloo, Jean Brusselmans, Gustave De Smet, Raoul De Keyser, Roger Raveel, Panamarenko, Walter Swennen, Luc Tuymans, Ann Veronica Janssens, Lili Dujourie, Jan Vercruysse and many others.
Mu.ZEE now boasts a newly arranged wing of the museum containing masterpieces from the collection. These masterpieces were selected from the museum’s rich collection of over 3,500 works.
Self-Portrait with Flower Hat by Ensor, Vertigo and Self-Portrait with Red Pencil by Léon Spilliaert, Figure Seen from Behind (La nuque) by Luc Tuymans, together with work by Gustave De Smet, Roger Raveel, Ann Veronica Janssens, Walter Swennen, Georges Vantongerloo, René Guiette, Marcel Broodthaers, Evelyne Axelle … are all currently part of this selection of masterpieces. It is not a thematic or chronological selection, but emphasis is placed upon artists who, through their oeuvre, stimulate the imagination. In addition to the masterpieces wing, there are different collection displays that are regularly renewed. As a result, Mu.ZEE is always a place where there are new works and artists to be discovered.
